Let's see who reads our page before I break the news to y'all tomorrow!! Hello Everyone, (FROM COMCAST!!)
A huge “THANK YOU” to you and your students for participating in the Comcast 5th Grade Reading Challenge! This was a tough challenge this year – we had 98 classes participate, which is more than in past years.
I know you’re anxious to find out the winners, so without further ado, they are:
Central Valley Area: With 130,879 minutes read, for a per student average of 4,090 - Mrs. Grit Walther’s class, Anthony Traina Elementary, Tracy (34 classes participated)
North Valley Area: With 73,751 minutes read, for a per student average of 2,837 - Mrs. Christine Langford’s class, Biggs Elementary School, Biggs (5 classes participated)
Sac Metro Area: With 213,598 minutes read, for a per student average of 7,365 - Ms. Lisa Liss’s class, Strauch Elementary School, Sacramento (34 classes participated)
South Valley Area: With 136,054 minutes read, for a per student average of 4,252 - Ms. Valerie Zacharchuk’s class, T.L. Reed School, Reedly (22 classes participated)
SouthWest Area: With 58,870 minutes read, for a per student average of 1,962 - Ms. Linda Corley’s class, Ontiveros Elementary School (3 classes participated)
Mrs. Walther, Ms. Liss and Ms. Corley are all past winners!
Congratulations to all! A lot of you told me that even if your class didn’t win, you felt it was a worthwhile Challange, getting even your toughest students to read more; that’s exactly what we (Comcast) hope for by running this Challenge.
I’ll be sending next year’s brochure out earlier than in past years - at the end of November - so be on the lookout for it.
I hope you and your students enjoyed participating. Until next year!
